Planned economy: only the state builds factories. State economy: Both state and capitalists builds factories. Intervetion economy: capitalists builds factories, state can give finacial support. Laz-faire capitalists builds factories, and factories earn more.

Wait what, Jake doesn't have a CD key for all of Paradox's games on Steam ? wtf ?

  6. @sevenpolar3483 says:

As someone who knows this game, I am going to give you fair warning.

The smaller the country you are the less you can do.

Don't commit to playing some tiny nation and ruining the game for yourself before you have played a decent nation in Europe (like one of the Italians) and enjoyed the crisis mechanics and global wars.

In case you didnt get that advise from chat already Jake, national foci are the main tool for managing your population, which is the central aspect of the game. If you want more soldiers, you set your foci to Encouraging soldiers in your most populous states, the same for workers, clergy, bureaucrats etc. Youll also want factories asap so you can export goods for budget surplus (and so you dont have to import expensive stuff) and for your score so you can become a great power. Once I understood that the game completely opened up back when I started.

  18. @Brunomerez says:

    Hey Jake, some tips:

Focusing on increasing tax efficiency early on by raising admin budget and using the 'promote bureaucrats' national focus is generally a good idea.

Prestige is king. if you focus on researching the culture tech tree early on you can get up to 20 prestige per invention if you're the first to discover the invention.

Brazil may have a lot of land, but no people on it. Passing liberal reforms (yuck) helps with immigration, especially around the 1870's, when europe is in shambles. Having immigrants means more people working on RGOs, paying taxes and becoming soldiers, plus they increase the average literacy rate in your country. This doesn't work in old-world nations.

Colonization is great, and focusing on naval tech to get better ports and better ships will give you more colonial power points, allowing you to colonize and compete with other world powers for colonies. Africa has loads of pops, pops produce things, pay taxes and die for your army.

To be able to colonize, you'll need to focus on technologies with inventions that increase min. life expectancy, build ships and ports and be at least a secondary power. It's best to focus on it early as by the time colonization tech and inventions become generally available europe will latch it's claws onto africa as fast as you can say 'heart of darkness'.

Eventually when you get to Great Power status, it becomes increasingly beneficial to add countries to your sphere of influence rather than all out conquering them. You get first dibs on goods produced by countries in your sphere, before they reach the global market.

For instance, rather than conquering some god forsaken backwater you can simply add said country to your sphere of influence and effectively get the same access to their goods before anyone else.

Industry is good, building industry that sinergizes with the goods your nation and sphere produces will give you the boon dollar. To do that you must have a party in power that supports state capitalism or planned economy.

China is the place to be, if you manage to conquer the coastal provinces of China and Manchuria you basically won the game. Loads of pop, loads of goods, luxury goods. It's great.

Mad props for learning Vic2 on stream. That's insane. I think I spent a solid 2-3 days watching videos and reading guides before I felt like I was able to do anything. HOI4 and CK3 really show how far paradox has come in making the games more accessible…

    War casulties reduce pops:
When they mobilise the unemployed, peasants, workers and other low class folk becomes soldiers, when you kill those it kills them as pops. But also killing soldiers isn't bad since military spending turns some regular folk into soldiers. So while soldiers aren't contributing to the economy killing lots of them keeps the population down. In MP games with lots of wars Europe can end up with very few people surviving

    How to siege faster:
Sieges are sped up by your "reconnaissance" which is maximised when you have at least 10% cav (best are hussars) in your stack. Sieges of forts also profit from engineers (again 10%). So until planes and tanks get unlocked the "ideal" stack is 4 infantry 1 hussar 1 engineer and 4 artillery, in the early game you need to put 4 of those together to get to combat width, later on just 2. Against AI that's usually overkill and you can reduce the cannon count a fair bit.

    The loans to greece:
Rule of thumb: ignore loans completely except for paying them off. Better explanation: when your pops have spare money they put it into your national bank and give loans to you and other countries (that's where you take your loans from, too). The government doesn't have direct control over these except for deccing wars to force people to repay debts. In general it's quite good when your people can save money since the interest on the loans is money flowing from other countries directly into your economy. But since you only have indirect control ignoring it works fine.

  23. @marcusbenhurr says:

Jake, as Brazil you need to rush the education tech tree so you can teach people how to read. Literacy is very important as you need it to get capitalists, craftsmen and clerks. Those 3 are absolutely vital for building industry.

I completely agree with you on ledgers. I miss them so hard in Stellaris. Though not as much as I miss all the message options… Seriously, who thought that having the only time any kind of message other than anomalies or events only popping up and pausing the first time they happened was a good idea?

Are we finally gonna get Vic III if Jake likes it enough? I recall him saying they didn't have anyone interested in spearheading the project.

  30. @faisalal-qassem3758 says:

    "You can't kill civilian pops"
You absolutely can. If you nearly fully occupy a country (not enough to cause an automatic white peace eventually), you cause every pop in an occupied province to become unemployed. If pops are unemployed, they can't fulfil any of their life needs, and if they can't get their life needs, they either die or immigrate. Say you were playing as the United States and you wanted to ethnically cleanse some Mexican territories, you would declare war on Mexico, occupy everything except for the capital province (so they can keep mobilizing troops for you to help the process along) and then sit on them for several years. I had a game where I managed to depopulate the country down to like 100k before I started annexing them, and even then they were just permanently f'd with rebels.
You could theoretically do the same thing in place like Turkey or Austria if you really wanted to, but it's kind of a pain and a lot of BB if you are releasing and reconquering nations.

It's kind of hard to apply this to Europe because once you depopulate a province, you have to find a way to get the pops you want to move in. To my knowledge that can only be done by building up a ton of factories in the depopulated province ahead of time (subsidized of course), and then closing large factories in another province with the right culture. Even then they aren't guaranteed to move there and are just as likely emigrate to the new world or australia, but I suppose it wouldn't be impossible to see something ridiculous like an Irish France.

on beginner nations, I found that prussia was less military focused than you'd think initially, and I think that forming the NGF diplomatically is a pretty good way to get a grip on how the influence etc works (and how it cheeses you) in this game . apologies if this is old news to you.

I still remember when I saw the OPM Minghals game you did lol. I believe you declared war on Delhi over unpaid loans, somehow got land a province, released 3 vassals, gave money to those vassals, went bankrupt which force changed your culture, and then formed the Mughals. Not sure what happened after that though.

Has Paradox basically abandoned Vic2? I'd love to see this series "returned" and expanded, it feels like there's a pretty serious gap between EU4 and HOI4. Better yet, I'd love to see a grand-campaign system that combines everything from CK->EU->Vic->HOI, in a glorious clusterfuck of insanity. Also as bad as a UI as possible, to keep the plebs away

I love your humor, its dry and bad, just like mine. sub'd

I like YT’ers that are good at games and not overly eccentric. DDRJake fits that profile. BUT, I am NOT one of those ppl you think (SJW/snowflake) far from it. That said, most ppl hear ā€œwhite privilegeā€ and think silver spoon/ parents had money. No. Without going into deep detail, privilege is having the cavalier attitude this guy has toward slavery. It’s a joke, an exploit. He has that disregard bc it has no direct influence on him as a white European. THAT is privilege. So it’s one of two things: 1. this guy is a racist, or 2. he suffers from blinding white privilege and cultivates an audience that will send his minions attacking this comment. These are the FACTS. I hope it’s 2. Either way, I hope he acknowledges his lack of insight and corrects course. Not be cancelled or reported, but see’s some credibility in an opposing point of view.
