“The ship sailed from Singapore to Brazil with 3,800 tonnes of gas oil and 200 tonnes of diesel on board. Greater than 1,000 tonnes of oil seeped into the waters earlier than salvage crews had been in a position to take away all of the remaining gas.”
Days after the accident, hundreds of volunteers went to the coast sporting rubber boots, gloves and scrubbing the rocks to clear the oils off the waters.
