Conservative Party leadership candidates participate in 1st official English debate | FULL
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The six Conservative Party of Canada leadership candidates battled it out on Wednesday evening during the first official English debate of the race in Edmonton.

Jean Charest, Roman Baber, Pierre Poilievre, Patrick Brown, Scott Aitchison and Leslyn Lewis participated in the party’s first official leadership debate, which will be followed by one in French in two weeks’ time.

Topics discussed and debated included abortion legislation, the future of energy, the environment, law and order, the cost of living and the North.

This event came less than a week after five out of the six contenders put on a feisty performance during an unofficial debate in Ottawa, where much focus was paid to fighting COVID-19 mandates and the recent convoy protest in the nation’s capital.

The soundboard is a joke. Don’t include an audience if you don’t want participation.

it worries me that conservatives are becoming so much more pro abortion.

I think this was a very poorly moderated debate with a poor format it seems that there were so many questions given that ended up not being answered and situations where some one took swipes at others knowing they could not defend themselves, its not a debate when the conversation only goes in one direction and it seemed that the debate format and moderator encouraged this.

Your candidate loses time for every second that passes? Excuse me? This debate being held is for VOTERS which were sitting in the audience. You sir, are the worst moderator I've ever had the displeasure of watching.

Weird how conservatives say they won't make mandates but with the last election they did say they would bring in mandates which is why I voted for PPC because they were the only party who said they wouldn't and believed in body autonomy. It scares me when leaders can choose what to do with your body no mater the cause.

  21. @surferdude4487 says:

These morons have no understanding of how green energy works. Carbon capture and hydrogen power are NOT any part of the answer. We already have carbon capture. It's called trees. They even produce very useful materials to build housing and provide valuable habitat for wild life. Hydrogen has a useful energy conversion rate not too far off from gasoline. Fuel cells require large amounts of precious metals to produce. High pressure hydrogen is insidious and destroys fuel systems.
We need: wind and solar power generation, grid level battery power storage, battery electric vehicles, replacement of diesel powered transport and service vehicles with battery electric. We also need to build out thorium salt reactors to provide base load. Nobody in this debate is even on the right track.
And this business of bringing in MORE immegrants because we need more skilled labour? Give me a break!!!! We have countless young people that cannot get into the trades because legal restrictions prevent skilled masters from taking on apprentices. Let's change those restrictions so that a skilled master is OBLIGATED to take on a reasonable number of apprentices to maintain their master license. Then, maybe, our young people will be able to provide the skilled labour we NEED instead of being forced to work at demeaning, low-paid retail and fast-food jobs.

On the topic of water we should discuss how Nestle buys our water for mice nuts and sells it across the border which brings them millions. While indigenous people can't even get clean water.
While the CEO of Nestlé believes access to clean water is a privilege not a right, Canada allowing this is showing they side with Nestlé 's views.

Oh the irony of the 94 recommendations. The Reformation was sparked by the 95 Thesis, with the 95th being: that the Bible is the central religious authority and that humans may reach salvation only by their faith and not by their deeds. Considering Canada operates under the concept of the supremacy of God and the rule of law, it would be appropriate maybe to recognize the final authority.

  30. @oldspammer says:

My comment here in support of various traditional conservative policies and enumerating some dangerous leftism policies was censored within seconds likely by the Google AI that is trained with biased training data that dictates that anti-leftism is hate speech.

  31. @oldspammer says:

Our education system seeds leftism ideas as psychologically normalized and the right answers to many questions. Very young people are ill-equipped to fact check false rhetoric like this and so swallow hook line and sinker disinformation. When I outline this disinfo, my comment is censored.

All countries have to stop feeding globalism their wealth by adapting new currencies not subject to international debt compounded yearly interest charges. To do this, likely the law of nations should be amended. Some backward countries do not even have a proper definition of an obligation to repay money in the course of future events and generations. As such they cannot understand all of the concepts involved. So called advisors come in and advise that the poor country indebt themselves to become the slaves of these globalists.

  33. @Real_tasty_recipes says:

Two people admiring Nelson Mandela and they call themselves conservatives? They need to be better educated about history because Nelson Mandela was a member of a far left group in South Africa. I'm not saying that the other side as en example either but, come on, what a weak notion of history of these two candidates.

Undoubtedly, He is capable enough to be the Conservative Leader and Prime Minister of this Country, If he LEADS Canada away from these Unelected, Undemocratic, Criminal / World Organizations.. THEY ( These Criminal Organizations ) don't REPRESENT Canadians.. If you want to have these people continue to tell you how to live, GO LIVE IN SOME OTHER COUNTRY.. Having said that, this Leader needs to listen to HIS Voters and Fellow Citizens and take ADVISE from NO OTHER Criminals that live in some other Country.. Canadians are quite capable of "Screwing" Themselves and Their IDEAS, up.. Here's what I have TO SAY about this GUY.. IF and WHEN the first words that come from is mouth, refers to some Connection to some World-wide Criminal Organization telling the Citizens of this Country how to conduct their lives, WE ARE "SCREWED:. As a 80 year old Canadian, I am saddened by Candice Bergen's that She will not be returning to Public Life.. Canadians will MISS Her..
