South America has a great mystery. This..continent…was for a very….very longtime. Remote before being connected by Central America. And long since separate from Africa. It’s Dinosaurs are apparently the largest ever…..absolutely HUGE! Yet…..after the great extinctions….South America produced only small…mammals..birds….and reptiles. No large carnivores. The introduction of the cat..or mountain lion..or panthers came from North America down into central and South America…..and when they did. They too…..were smaller. Many no bigger then house cats. Lamas and herbavores were there…but no Bison….no Bears…nothing Huge. Maybe an anaconda or fresh water fish. It’s an ongoing mystery…of how this…extreme opposite of evolution exists. As far as those Huge Dinosaurs…the Mystery is they again…don’t really understand how anything that HUGE existed..or evolved. And again…..different then other continents. This is reflected in the less well known fossilized plants and trees..specifically the Cone bearing trees…..there Giant Redwood Forests. Yes..South America has its own version of giant trees. Different…but of the ancient line that precedes the leaf bearing hard woods…and animals. Ancient. Lost Valley’s…..or plateaus. Many a book written on…a lost Valley of prehistoric creatures. However……the reality is a very…small….peaceful world of the miniature. Frogs n toads. Insects and fungi. Spiders can be large…as are the centipedes. Yet…all. A shadow of the Giants that walked here.

The forest was covered in a huge balsamic flow….petrified wood is made in this fashion. You may thank the volcanoes for preserving them. Petrified Forest in Washington state is similar…..right down to the tree rings! But now…can be polished..like an agate. However…many are huge and look….unremarkable until you know what it is. The basalt wears away…leaving the exposed…but much harder fossilized tree. Or sometimes…the hole in the balsamic material….has a log that was there…and part of it remains. It’s first discovered in this way.
Get some cuttings and bring them to Canada,! We'll revive them!
