How the world does business has been in a bit of transition because of U.S. President Donald Trump and his tariffs.
Now, Canada is rethinking shipping and trade – a renewed focus is the port of Churchill in northern Manitoba on the shores of Hudson Bay.
Global’s Melissa Ridgen reports on what could become a new era of global trade for Canada.

Thank god Canada has at least 1 western premier who has faith in and loyalty to a strong Canadian future. You rock Wab.
Let’s get it done! 🇨🇦
Who are the customers – real ones? "If you build ot they will come" only works in the movies.
Its swamp in the summer and frozen nightmare in the winter
Another joke not enough immigrants
Good for you. Someone should be innovating and thriving and building economic strength. -American't
"FACO" Ford. Why don't you start up the surcharge to the US(of idiots) in energy. You did it for one day and you made 100 of thousands of dollars in one day. Why the "FACO" FORD? Better still, tell us all what is wrong with it that is worse the what the US(of idiots) are doing to us????
Nice to see native people going something with there life , Not booze drugs and looking for Government handouts.
Now is the time to work out a deal with Canada’s steel makers to start producing rails for an upgraded rail line.
I say turn the tariffs on its head. Reduce the supply and increase the price.
The energenic Manitoba Premier appears to be the man for the job in bringing his Province into an important trading world.
Who knew! Excellent.
Seperate
Dream on. Ice-bound most of the year. This PR media campaign will cost taxpayers and end in a white elephant fizzle.
Manitoba will be 100x more rich than dubaii when train will be done. Even alberta will be happy
hope wab kinew will make it trough and manitoba will build that train to north, it will be a golden era to Canada
Even if shipping to/from the port is 6 months, there's still year round work. That's 6 months to transport in goods to be stored, & shipped when the port opens for the season. You wouldn't need a pipeline as you can store 6 months of oil, raw material to be shipped, then when the port opens, the trade of all goods starts with oil & raw materials ready to go on day 1 of the season.
This is why Trump wants Canada. Artic Port and Northwest Passage.
Where do I sign up to help build this project. Mark Carney is doing an amazing job. ❤
This is a great idea- military/ Coast Guard base and a pipeline for export
1:06 "Churchill has the only deepwater seaport in North America."…
Huh?
What trade meca? Big mistake using this port which is open just 4 months a year and since AMOC changes have already started to thicken sea ice, in 5 years that stretch may be down to just 60 days. Look for Geophysical Research Letter – 2025 – Weijer – What CMIP6 Models Tell Us About the Impact of AMOC Variability on the Arctic. (Wiley pub)
