US President Donald Trump has threatened India with an “unspecified penalty” over its military and trade ties with Russia, as part of his push for a ceasefire in Ukraine.
The sanctions would be in addition to the 25% tariffs announced by the president this week, which are due to come into effect on 1 August.
India is the largest importer of Russian arms worldwide, which make up more than half its military equipment.
Russia is also India’s top oil supplier, accounting for 35% of overall supplies in 2025.
The Security Brief’s Mikey Kay, a former Senior Officer in the British Military, explains the nature of the military relationship between the two countries – and looks at the role other nations are playing in Russia’s arms arsenal.

F-35 might be better at stealth but along with it has US limitations on when we can use it and who it is to be used upon. Why should we listen to US when we have bought the product thats utter bullshit. It like buying a harley and then harley tells to ride the bike only in certain days which doesn’t make sense.
