Indonesian minister calls for cross-sector support in creative economy

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, has highlighted the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration to boost the development of the creative economy in regions.

After inaugurating the board of directors of his ministry’s new Civil Servants Organization (Korpri) in Jakarta on Thursday, Harsya noted that a joint decree on guidelines for establishing regional creative economy offices has been issued.

The joint decree, signed by Harsya and Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, has led to the establishment of creative economy offices in 19 provinces and 80 districts and cities.

Harsya said that institutional strengthening measures will not stop at the establishment of these offices.

The Ministry of Creative Economy is also encouraging revisions to regional government law and has called for the issuance of a Minister of Home Affairs’ circular to include the creative economy in the Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD) and the Regional Government Information System (SIPD).

This, he explained, would ensure that creative economy development is integrated as a core part of regional policy.

Harsya emphasized that support from all parties is essential, as the ministry is still relatively new and its facilities, regulations, and institutional foundations require further bolstering.

On August 9, the ministry’s expert staff member, Septriana Tangkary, reported that Indonesia’s creative economy showed remarkable growth from 2013 to 2024.

According to the ministry’s data, the number of workers in the creative economy sector rose from 14 million in 2013 to 26.47 million by 2024.

Additionally, during the same period, the export value of the creative economy increased from US$15 billion to US$25.1 billion.
