Minister highlights need for inclusive, just energy transition

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono emphasized that Indonesia’s journey towards the energy transition and green economy must be inclusive and just.

“The journey towards sustainability must be pragmatic, just, and supported by real resources,” he said in Jakarta on Saturday.

He noted that under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, the government is seeking to adopt an integrated approach, strengthening food and water security through better agriculture, irrigation, and logistics.

Apart from that, Indonesia is also aiming to realize energy security by expanding the use of renewable energy such as geothermal and hydropower, processing waste to energy, and developing climate-resilient infrastructure.

“The commemoration of Indonesia’s 100th anniversary in 2045 will not only be viewed from the gross domestic product (GDP) but also whether our growth is strong and equitable, dynamic and sustainable,” he remarked.

“We cannot depend on the old growth model, which was driven by dependence on fossil fuels and extractive practices,” he added.

This approach, he further said, has a higher risk of causing air pollution, degraded ecosystems, and weakening competitiveness in the long term.

“To this end, the future must be built with sustainable infrastructure, which is not only resilient and efficient but also has low carbon, is climate-resilient, and inclusive,” he outlined.

Furthermore, to achieve the goal, he also underscored the need to invest in human resources, which is just as important as investing in the construction of physical infrastructure.

“Transforming the energy means improving not only technology but also the human resources. Aligning infrastructure with energy, prosperity with sustainability, and fairness with resilience is our way to Golden Indonesia 2045,” the minister said.
