While U.S.-Canada trade negotiations continue, a new Ipsos poll has found that Canadian attitudes toward U.S. annexation have solidified against the idea of becoming the 51st state, with support dropping sharply as Canadians increasingly view the proposal as rhetoric.
72% of Canadians believe Trump’s comments about becoming the 51st state have only strengthened Canadian pride.

Yes triumph right
In 2012, US gdp was 9x of Canada. In 2030, it will be 14x. Canada is projected to be worst performing advanced economy for next 20-30 years by OECD. So a merger makes financial sense. Albeit, resources per capita is much higher in Canada. A lot more water, land, resources for 8x less number of citizens. So pro's and cons. Not to mention, population growth rate in Canada has been higher, so per capita incomes have also gone down a lot more drastically, compared to America. Our per capita is comparable to Alabama. Ouch.
I down if we get 100mill usd each 😂
Canada is a failing country that undercut and stole the American automotive industry with nothing to show for it from the past 30 years and Trump gave them a way out .
Canada will never be part of the usa! 100%
It would be interesting to know where the 21% of traitors come from🤔
51st state would be beneficial, in my opinion. Better for buisness.
🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬hell NO !
WE WILL NOW IN THIS YEAR 2025 EXERCISE OUR INDIGENOUS PEOPLES RIGHT TO PHYSICALLY TAKE OVER OUR ANCESTRAL TERRITORIES.

Im from Ontario and would gladly join common sense USA approach, instead of left woke ideology that has all but already destroyed this once great country
Liberals have destroyed a once proud and respected Country. If we continue down this path the US won't even be interested in taking this husk as a state
If you got 16% of canadians thinking about it, thats still crazy.
Who would want to be part of anything Trump instigates, he cant be trusted.
You Canadians better worry about your freedom and not your ego
In Your Goddamn Dreams!
You cancelled the US visa for me as I wanna go to Canada. Canada won't be 51st state of USA.
Those numbers who be higher if they acknowledged everyone is canada 😒 majority of the people in canada don't vote anyways
The remaining 21% are idiots
I am Canadian, not American
does it matter?
once MC is done bankrupting canada.
usa will annex canada.
well done liberals.
NO DONALD TRUMP.
These polls remind me of 2016 and 2020 and 2024 election cycles…You truly never know what someone really believes until ITS TIME TO VOTE!!!! Have a vote and see once and for all!!! You have nothing to be AFRAID of if you're so confident, correct?
I would vote for a 51st state anytime It can't get any worse than it is now…. Canada needs to grow up.
Guess t 1:22 he United Kingdom will be 51 . It would be one of our smaller states. You will be on your own. Csnada has a larger land mass but smaller population than the UK
So there is a chance?
Sure, but please leave the Inds, Islamists and CCP at the door.
I'm Canadian and I'm ashamed by how Canadiens react they say they are proud, but whats there to be proud of fentanyl killing thousands of people crime is everywhere. Skid rows are growing larger by the day people can't afford basic needs anymore. They can't buy a house, jobs are disappearing by the thousands each month people can't even afford to start a family taxes are so high half of your paycheck is gone and on top of that its not even used for hospitals schools and doctors are leaving nurses are leaving and teachers are quiting so why are you proud

There are a lot of us who have always dreamed of joining the union. Imagine the greatness of that nation.
That number of people who want to be in USA will double if things here keep sucking
I would want to be part of the 51St state under President Trump. I think it would be good for Canada.
That 79% doesn't matter in the slightest. The only numbers that matter is the % of Albertans who support becoming a 51st state. We don't want the rest of Canada.
The other 21% are in my province of Alberta
Ask this question again after the Liberals finish collapsing the country.
Top 100 Reasons Canadians don't want to join the U.S.
1) Universal health care
2) Price caps on medication
3) If our government can't pass a budget and there is a deadlock it leads to an election, not a complete government shutdown. Politicians lose their jobs not workers.
4) Common sense gun control
5) "Felons" who have served their sentence still have a chance at life. They aren't branded with their crime(s) for life.
6) Women have autonomy over their bodies.
7) Immigration control is largely kept at the borders where it belongs.
8) Higher education is financially possible for most people.
9) I can hold as many citizenships I want without any administrative headaches (i.e. I don't have to declare it to the Canadian government).
10) Residency taxation not citizenship taxation
11) The Canadian government does not impose travel bans on its citizens based on foreign policy decisions (i.e. cannot go to Cuba or North Korea). I can't think of any examples of when Canada imposed a travel ban to a foreign country on Canadian citizens.
12) Canadians generally enjoy a positive global reputation, which can make travel less stressful or risky in some situations.
13) Much of Canada is publicly owned or protected as national or provincial parks, making it accessible to all Canadians, whereas much of the U.S. is privately owned or restricted. It is a far less commercialized experience in Canada.
14) Canadians have a more relaxed cultural attitude toward patriotic rituals. Not standing for the anthem usually does not provoke the same social backlash.
15) More comprehensive and accessible services for people with special needs.
16) Less car-centric (if barely). More reliable public transportation in urban areas.
17) Voting is generally simpler, more accessible, and less bureaucratic. Every Canadian vote counts equally.
18) There is no pressure to assimilate. How you assimilate is up to you. I can follow whatever cultural beliefs I want and it will generally be celebrated.
19) Public schools are better overall. Wealthier neighborhoods don't get better schools.
20) Our ability to get into university is not tied to one standardized test. It is based on your overall performance throughout high school.
21) "Green card holders" (PR card holders) are treated with almost the same rights as citizens in daily life. We don't break up families. If an immigrant is married to a Canadian citizen they can remain outside the country with their Canadian spouse indefinitely without affecting their residency status.
22) Far less influence from big-money lobbying so it won't dominate every facet of my life.
23) No gerrymandering. Independent non-partisan commissions handle electoral boundary redistribution.
24) No powerful HOAs which can act almost like private governments with significant legal authority.
25) Civil forfeiture – No widespread, revenue-driven seizure of citizens’ property without charges.
26) Stronger privacy protections. Federal and provincial privacy laws regulate government surveillance, data collection, and access to personal information, requiring transparency and justification.
27) A safer and more stable banking system. During the 2008 global financial crisis, no Canadian bank failed, while many U.S. banks collapsed or required massive bailouts. No minimum balances to access banking.
28) Stronger and more consistent consumer protection laws. Canadian regulators tend to prioritize consumer rights over corporate interests, creating a stronger safety net.
29) No extreme utility bill spikes. More reliable and regulated electricity services. Canadian utility regulators often cap extreme charges. No electric bills exceeding $10,000 like happened in Texas. No astronomical bills after natural disasters.
30) No active shooter drills. Canada rarely experiences school shootings.
31) Police are rarely stationed in schools, and when they are involved, it’s usually for serious incidents, not routine discipline. Canadian schools prioritize counseling, restorative practices, and teacher-led discipline rather than immediate criminalization.
32) Better access to mental health services.
33) More support for seniors.
34) A justice system not grounded in profit. No private prisons. Fewer harsh sentences for minor crimes. Easier access to legal aid.
35) Greater income equality.
36) Lower poverty rates.
37) Less consumerism-driven culture.
38) Stronger worker rights. More emphasis on work-life balance. Paid parental leave and maternity/paternity benefits.
39) Less prevalence of highly processed or genetically modified foods. Stricter safety and labeling standards.
40) More government support for arts, museums, and cultural programs.
41) Universal or subsidized childcare in many provinces.
42) More enforcement of drunk-driving and distracted-driving laws.
43) Safer winter road maintenance systems.
44) Elections and leadership changes are orderly and respected.
45) Direct-to-consumer prescription drug advertising is heavily restricted. Encourages evidence-based prescribing rather than patient-driven demand shaped by advertising.
46) Personal taxes are more straightforward for residents. Less risk of aggressive IRS-style audits or punitive fines.
47) More statutory holidays and vacation days, culturally normalized for relaxation.
48) Public spaces feel less commercialized compared to many U.S. cities.
49) No “executive orders” with sweeping unilateral power. Any major policy, spending, or emergency action requires parliamentary approval or must be grounded in existing legislation.
50) Political debate is often less polarizing and less dominated by extreme rhetoric.
51) Canada’s political system encourages more multi-party representation, not just two parties. (even if it is barely more)
52) Tighter campaign finance laws.
53) Canada prefers balancing capitalism with social responsibility.
54) Canadians value peacekeeping traditions over military engagements abroad.
55) Support international cooperation.
56) Maintains friendlier relations with many nations.
57) Canadians broadly support LGBTQ+ rights.
58) Religion plays a smaller role in public policy.
59) More of a focus on repairing their relationship with indigenous communities
60) Identify more with Europe than U.S. exceptionalism
61) Our natural resources are more tightly regulated and protected
62) Simplified immigration pathways to other Commonwealth countries
63) Canada bans corporate and union donations to federal political parties.
64) While not flawless (especially regarding Indigenous communities), water is recognized as a public right. Water rights remain public.
65) Freedom from Health Insurance Paperwork and Employer Dependency.
66) Simplified citizenship renunciation if you really wanted to.
67) Freedom to retain dual allegiance without stigma.
68) Voting is easier. Automatic voting registration. Each vote counts. Voting is based on citizenship – prisoners can vote.
69) No militarized policing.
70) Freedom from excessive bail and fines.
71) Judges are appointed based on merit, not elected via political campaigns.
72) Rights cannot be rescinded locally once recognized federally.
73) Supreme court justices are vetted by a nonpartisan committee.
74) Prime ministers can be removed at any time by a no-confidence vote.
75) Losing candidates often remain in Parliament, ensuring diverse voices persist.
76) Can change jobs without losing healthcare.
77) Labour laws extend protections to part-time and contract workers.
78) Freedom from widespread deforestation.
79) Freedom to challenge polluters through public process. Impact assessments and appeals are open to citizens.
80) No pledges, loyalty oaths or flag rituals in schools.
81) No draft or cultural expectation of military service.
82) No jail for ordinary debt.
83) Freedom from surprise ambulance bills. Fees are regulated.
84) Political ads not allowed in classrooms or public spaces.
85) Freedom from partisan control over election administration. Political party members cannot sit on electroal boards.
86) No hidden internet and cell fees. Full costs must be transparent.
87) No utility shutoffs in the winter. Banned disconnection during cold months.
88) Mortgage law prevents sudden seizure; judicial process required.
89) Alberta is rat free. No U.S. state is completely rat free.
90) Freedom from private ownership of coastlines. Most Canadian shorelines are public trust lands.
91) Ironic that the U.S. has loose gun laws, but more regulations on knives. Canadian law allows many knives if not carried for dangerous purpose. You can carry a full-length sword in public (no brandishing).
92) You can harvest rainwater in your private property with minimal restriction.
93) Freedom from mandatory jury duty for all eligible citizens.
94) I can get a Kinder Surprise chocolate egg with a toy inside.
95) Can change you legal gender marker without requiring surgery.
96) Nationwide recreational use of cannabis. Access to "supervised safe injection sites" for drug users.
97) Free, universally accessible walk-in care – walk-in medical clinics.

100) Can buy and drink alcohol before age 21.
