Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin on Friday said his country is keen to deepen ties with India, especially in the fields of healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and technology.

Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, Alckmin confirmed that Brazil and India have signed an agreement for joint vaccine production and expressed hope for more Indian pharmaceutical products to enter the Brazilian market.

“We have signed an agreement for joint vaccine production. Indian pharma products are welcome in Brazil, and we’re also exploring joint manufacturing,” he said.

Alckmin, who is on a bilateral visit to India, is leading a high-level delegation of 14 officials, including Brazil’s Ambassador to India, Kenneth Nobrega, and Romison Rodrigues, Director of Brazil’s Health Regulatory Agency. He was also accompanied by his wife, Maria Lucia Alckmin.

The Brazilian vice president said that both nations, large democracies with growing economies, have much to gain from closer cooperation.

“Regardless of US tariffs, when we talk about two countries, two democracies. Brazil and India are both large in territory. India is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, with 7% GDP growth. There is a lot of potential, especially in areas like technology, mining, and agriculture,” he said.

Alckmin also dismissed reports that Brazil is considering a swap deal involving Indian Akash missile systems in exchange for Brazilian defence technology. “There is no such deal,” he stated.

Additionally, he spoke about the importance of strengthening BRICS, saying the group is not aimed against any country. “BRICS supports multilateralism,” he said.

The Brazilian leader expressed hope for a direct flight between India and Brazil, calling it a shared dream that would improve connectivity and business ties. Alckmin noted that India already operates many Embraer aircraft, calling them cost-effective and well-suited to Indian aviation needs.
