Japan’s Mount Aso volcano erupted on Wednesday within the Kumamoto Prefecture, sending ash into the sky and elevating the alert stage for the mountain to a 3 on a scale of 5.
Tomoaki Ozaki, director of the Japan Meteorological Company’s Volcanic Commentary Division, advised reporters following the eruption that there had been no experiences to date of injury or casualties. However he warned that there was the opportunity of one other eruption, warning individuals to not enter the world inside two kilometres of the crater. He additionally warned of the danger of falling rocks and pyroclastic flows inside a radius of about one kilometre across the mountain’s Nakadake crater.
Mount Aso had a small eruption in 2019, whereas Japan’s worst volcanic catastrophe in practically 90 years occurred in 2014 when Mount Ontake erupted, killing 63 individuals.
